Electric lawn mowers FAQs

Q: If I want a cheap mower, should I go with gas or electric?

A: In general, the cost for electric mowers trends to be a little less than gas-powered mowers. However, this depends on the quality of the mower and the size of it as well. Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that electric mowers don’t require that you purchase things like gas and oil to keep it running. Electric mowers are more environmentally friendly (but for the most environmentally friendly lawnmower, check out a push reel mower – it doesn’t use gas or electricity to run it, but your own brawn!)

Q: I like to mow and keep an eye on my young kids at the same time. Which kind of mower will allow me to better hear my kids?

A: If you are interested in keeping the decibel level as low as possible, an electric lawn mower can prove to be much more effective than one powered by gasoline. Studies show that electric mowers make only about half the noise that gas-powered mowers make. However, if your kids are like most, they are probably much louder than the mower anyway.

Q: How reliable are electric lawn mowers?

A: These mowers are very reliable – to a point. They don’t require much maintenance, but their downfall is that the cordless versions must be recharged for several hours after it runs out of energy. Where a little extra gas will allow you to start back up with most traditional mowers, cordless mowers give you no choice but to wait. There are corded mowers which can help you to avoid this problem.
